It is with deep sorrow that the Lancaster County EMS Council and the Lancaster EMS Academy announces the untimely death of EMT student Scott Hackman. Scott, from Ephrata, died on Sunday evening, October 14th while riding his motorcycle. Scott was an excellent student and was looking forward to becoming an EMT. He will be missed. Scott is survived by his wife and four children. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. |

Welcome to the home page of the Lancaster County EMS Council. We are dedicated to ensuring consistency in the level of emergency medical care throughout Lancaster County.
The Lancaster County EMS Council is a volunteer organization which rely's on member organizations for support and continued function. Without support from these organizations and their providers, the Council will cease to exist. If you are an EMS provider wishing to make a difference, get involved. Come to our meetings and become an active participant within the EMS Council.
ADDRESS CHANGE: The Lancaster EMS Council recently changed addresses. Our new address is now P.O. Box 4723, Lancaster, PA 17604-4723
Regional MCI Plan: A new Regional MCI Plan was developed by the EHSF through a contract with Cocciardi and Associates. It is the recommendation of the Council President that this document be accepted as the new Lancaster County Mass Casualty Response Plan, replacing the version developed in 2003. Training will be conducted on this new plan throughout the Region over the next few months.
Dr. Reihart Named Emergency Physician of the Year

Lancaster County Physician, Michael J. Reihart, was named Emergency Physician of the Year by the PA Department of Health during the State EMS Conference on August 18, 2007.
Dr. Reihart is an Emergency Medical Physician at Lancaster General Hospital & Trauma Center where he played a key role during the Nickel Mines School Shooting that occurred on October 2, 2006.
Dr. Reihart also serves as the Regional Medical Director for the Emergency Health Services Federation, Inc. He is also the lead physician with the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team.

EMT of the Year

A Lancaster County EMT is named EMT of the Year by the PA Department of Health at the State EMS Conference.
David Sauder, from Leola Ambulance, received this award for his active involvment and his dedication to serving others. This marked the second time that David received this award. His first being in the late 1990's.
David received this award posthumously. He was killed in the line of duty while responding from home to the station to answer a second due call within the district when the vehicle he was riding in was involved in an accident. David served with Leola Ambulance for over 13 years as an EMT and active crew chief.
Mayday Task Force
The Lancaster County Fireman's Association has implemented a Mayday Task Force. This Task Force was developed to respond to fire related incidents where firefighters are lost and/or reported trapped in a fire building.
Units assigned to responds with the Mayday Task Force are:
- Collapse 6-5 (Responds on all calls and functions as TF Leader)
- Truck Company (closest available Truck will be dispatched)
- Rescue Company (closest available Rescue will be dispatched)
- ALS Unit (closest available ALS unit will be dispatched)
If you are dispatched as part of this Task Force, you are to respond to the incident and stage with the Task Force. Your role will be to provide medical support to the Task Force, not to get involved with the primary incident. Other units will be assigned as EMS and Rehab Sectors.
